FIRST EUROPEAN CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION AGAINST ASTHMA AND OTHER LUNG DISEASES (IUATLD)
At the congress held in Budapest from 12th to 15th April 2002 teacher Pavlos K. Hassanagas and Blagoja Gjorgjievski, MD presented a paper on the latest research of our society on asthma prevention “Respiratory re-education through yoga techniques as a prevention of asthma and other lung diseases”. Co-authors of this research are Z. Handziski, MD, P. Bogdanov, MD, R. Naumoska, MD and V. Stefanovski, MD.
The 51st Conference of the Hungarian Respiratory Association was held simultaneously. The two conferences were attended by participants from France, Argentina, Mexico, the USA, Great Britain, Macedonia, Greece, Sweden, Russia, Ukraine, etc. There were over 300 foreign and 500 domestic participants. The lectures and the presentations were held in sixteen plenary sessions on three main subjects: Asthma and Lung Diseases, Tuberculosis and Smoking as a World Problem.
It is interesting to note that our topic was among the rare ones concerning prevention of the healthy population and the only one from the field of yoga. The results achieved and the methods presented surprised many of the participants and opened new possibilities for the yoga system as an effective method for prevention of respiratory diseases.
